【Recent highlights】
The Heart Failure Center in Hiroshima University Hospital, established in 2012, has focused on maintaining the heart failure patients’ activities of daily life and preventing their readmission through the interprofessional team approaches. We have aggressively done the conference presentation and publication regarding team medical care for heart failure.

Profiles of Faculty and Research Scholars

In our department, the students will learn about the normal structure and function of cardiovascular system as well as the pathology, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. In the developed countries including Japan, the aging of population and change of lifestyle, such as unbalanced diet and lack of exercise, have contributed to an increase in the number of ischemic heart diseases, cardiac valve diseases, arterial diseases, heart failure, and arrhythmias. The educational goals in our department are to acquire the fundamental knowledge and technique for the management of cardiovascular diseases, and to learn how to obtain new evidence in the field of cardiovascular medicine.

Our current focuses go as follows.
1.Pathological and prognostic approach to ischemic heart diseases using imaging modalities (coronary CT, PET, etc.)
2.Clinical research for coronary artery disease
3.Catheter ablation and gene analysis for arrhythmias
4.Diagnosis of vascular endothelial function, and regenerative medicine for peripheral arterial diseases
5.Pathophysiology and new treatment of pulmonary hypertension
6.Pathophysiological assessment of heart failure and cardiac valve diseases using ultrasound and cardiopulmonary exercise test, and team medical care for heart failure
