On October 22, 2024, exchange students under the AIMS/PEACE Program put into practice their basic Japanese language skills. They set up colorful stalls which are often seen in Japanese traditional festivals. In preparation for this event, they visited a sake festival in Higashi-Hiroshima City to observe the stalls and listen to and learn common Japanese phrases.
Although the weather was unfavorable on the actual day and the event had to be moved indoors in the community room, more than 100 students, faculty and staff participated and who were given play money to spend. Six different types of stalls including the most popular shooting range (shateki) and ring toss (wanage) saw long lines of participants. A big lottery giving away items donated by faculty and staff provided much excitement.
The AIMS/PEACE program is a student exchange program for undergraduates jointly implemented by ASEAN countries and Japan.
