Individual Development Plan

Each HIRAKU-Global Researcher (HGR) drafts up an Individual Development Plan (IDP) at the start of their development period in order to recognize and become aware of their future research activities and goals. The IDP consists of the following four items and is written up in English.

1. Goal setting: Vision/medium- to long-term plans

2. Research planning: Potential researchers for collaborative research/network building plans

3. Funding planning: Research funding utilization plans/funding acquisition plans

4. Transferrable skills: Recognition of abilities that need to be developed

The HGRs update their IDP whenever they deem it is needed, while also receiving advice through meetings with their Consortium Mentors.

Achievement Card

The Achievement Card (AC) is created to visualize the performance of the HGRs during their 3rd and 5th year of development. Within the AC, the HGRs look back on their own activities based on the initial plans and goals they have written in their IDP, and reconsider how they will proceed with their research in the future. Furthermore, the AC is utilized by the HIRAKU-Global Program for the HGRs' Mid-Term (3rd year of development) and Final (5th year of development) evaluations with the aim of stimulating their self-awareness.

Aspiring World-Class Researcher’s Activity Indicator

The Aspiring World-Class Researcher’s Activity Indicator (AWRA) is an indicator which was developed with the purpose of providing an objective overview of the activity status of young researchers who aim to be active in the world. The items and weights were developed independently by the HIRAKU-Global Program. Each HGR's research activity data is input into the AC, and AWRA is the tool which helps to visualize this data. AWRA categorizes the research activities of young researchers into three main categories (reception of research funds, international research exchange, and publications, etc.), and subsequently, these three main categories are further categorized into various sub-categories. Through these methods, the progress and results of the development of "researchers who can play an active role in the world" can be visualized.
