Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) generally refers to ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, which are both intractable diseases of unknown cause, and their numbers of patients are increasing in recent years. IBDs are characterized by high prevalence in young people who may need various support for important events in life such as studying, working, marriage and childbirth. Furthermore, since IBD patients often suffer from extraintestinal complications, we need to cooperate with various departments for treatment in addition to departments of internal medicine and surgery.

Against such a background, the IBD Center was established in July 2015. The Departments of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Clinical Oncology, Dialysis Internal Medicine and Dentistry, as well as nurses, cooperate to treat patients with IBD, together with staff from the Division of Nutrition Management and the Department of Clinical Practice and Support and social workers, for the support of daily life, study or work of the patients. In addition, study workshops and opportunities for exchange meeting are held for both medical staff and patients.
