“Lectures for the Future” Series(*Japanese/ Slides in English)
Scientific Dreams and Future Planning: Lessons from
Three Decades of Research Facilities Development
by the HIRAKU-Global Consortium Mentor
Dr. Yoshifumi Nishimura, Professor Emeritus, Yokohama City University
(Former Vice President & Former Dean, Graduate School of Integrated Sciences for Life, Hiroshima University)
Turning Your "Scientific Dream" into a Vision for the Future
In this lecture, Professor Yoshifumi Nishimura, who has spent more than 30 years involved in establishing new graduate schools and research institutes, will share insights from his own experiences on the importance of scientific vision, strategic planning, dialogue, and collaboration. Through real-world examples, he will illustrate how a clear vision with a global perspective can attract research funding, outstanding talent, and policy support, ultimately leading to the creation of new educational and research environments.
How can researchers develop a vision that drives their daily research activities? How should they approach leading a laboratory or research team, contributing to the development of research hubs, or participating in the long-term planning of universities and research institutions? As researchers advance in their careers, various opportunities arise. What perspectives should they adopt, and how should they act to make the most of these opportunities?
This lecture is recommended for individuals at all stages of a research career, from doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career researchers to those who will play key roles in shaping the future of research teams and organizations. Why not take this opportunity to reflect on the future you would like to create through your research and beyond?
