About Himawari Nursery School
Eligibility
Faculty, staff and students of Hiroshima University.
Usage requirements
Persons who cannot care for their baby at home due to work, school, illness, etc.
Note: In the following cases, the applicant may not use the Childcare Facility even if it is within an approved period of time.
・The applicant is no longer an employee or student of the University
・When the applicant or his/her spouse is on childcare leave or leave of absence from the University.

* Excluding national holidays established by the National Holiday Act and the year-end and New
Year holidays (from December 29 through January 3), as a general rule.
Open Hours and Childcare Fee

*1 Closing hours for each day will be determined based on a Plan for Using the Childcare Facility.
*2 For monthly childcare fee for a second or subsequent child from the same household,
10,000 yen discount from the price list will be applied.
*3 Based on the age of a child on the day before the first day of the fiscal year which includes the entrance day.
☆Please note that in addition to the above childcare fee,
you may be required to be responsible for costs for correspondence notebook, extracurricular activities, etc.
Type of Service
Regular Childcare Service
The nursery offers childcare service everyday from the admission day to the end of the fiscal year.
*Closed days are excluded.
If you want to use it across the year, you must apply for each year.
When there are many people who want to use, priorities are assigned. If your priority is low, you may not be able to use it the following fiscal year.
Temporary Childcare Service
The nursery offers childcare service only for the date and time you designated when temporary childcare at home is difficult.
*Users of Regular Childcare Service are given priority, so it may not be accepted depending on the date and time.
About application
Applications for regular childcare services are accepted for the following year between October and November (regular recruitment).
Details about the application process will be posted on our website and the university portal.
- If you wish to enroll your child mid-year, such as when returning from maternity leave, Please make sure to apply in advance during the regular recruitment period.
- If you are a prospective employee of the university, please consult with us.
- After the regular recruitment deadline, enrollment will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applying for Enrollment Outside the Regular Recruitment Period
If there are vacancies, we accept applications for both regular and temporary childcare.
Please contact the Gender Equality Promotion Office first.
Please note that the nursery school admission process and preparations for accepting new children take time.
We kindly ask that you contact us as early as possible.
Temporary Childcare
If you continuously use temporary childcare service, you need to apply for the service each month.
Application may be made two months prior to the desired date of use and must be made at least two weeks prior to such date.
Flow of procedures for enrollment
(i)Fill out the Application Form for Using a Childcare Facility and upload required documents to apply.
Please refer to the “Forms” below for the Application Form and required documents.
(ii) After checking the documents, depending on availability, we will arrange a child and parent interview.
(iii) An interview between Himawari Nursery School’s staff and a candidate child and his/her parent will be held.
(iv) After the child and parent interview, if acceptable, a Notice of Approval for Using the Childcare Facility will be issued (i.e. the application for admission will be accepted).
Gradual entry
Himawari Nursery School does not provide a gradual entry. However, if it is considered by our nursery staff to be necessary, we may take your child for a few days prior to his/her enrollment to see if he/she is fine with our nursery. In such case, as this service will be handled as Temporary Childcare Service, so make sure to file an application for the Temporary Childcare Service separately. Childcare fee will be calculated at the same rate as the Temporary Childcare Service: 800 yen/hour x the number of hours of used for gradual entry.

If your spouse* is job-seeking, please upload "Status of Job-seeking" from the application form.
- The period for using the Regular Childcare Service during your spouse’s job-seeking activities will be “until the end of the month in which the 90th day after the use of the Childcare Facility falls. If the Certificate of Employment is not submitted after this period, you may not use the Childcare Facility.
- If your spouse is seeking a job, the use of the Regular Childcare Service is limited to once per fiscal year.
* The term "spouse" includes partners who are certified by a document certifying their partnership as shown in the Policies and Guidelines at Hiroshima University for Respecting Gender and Sexual Diversity - To Be Inclusive of LGBT+ Students, Faculty and Staff (approved by the Executive Board on December 27, 2022)

Regarding the elimination of fees for preschool education and childcare
- From October 1, 2019, a system where preschool education and childcare fees are free has been enforced.
- Himawari Nursery school is an unlicensed childcare institution to the free system.
- In order to be eligible for free childcare, it is necessary to receive “certification of need for childcare” from the local government where you live.
