On July 31, 2021, a webinar for Indonesian alumni (former international students) and current students from Indonesia was held. It was the second of its kind, following the first that was held on June 19, 2021. The webinar was attended by organizations PT. Sumitomo Indonesia and PERSADA, Association of Indonesian Alumni from Japan, with each representative giving a presentation. In total, over 150 people participated.

The first speaker, Mr. Hiroshi Karashima, President Director of PT. Sumitomo Indonesia, a subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation which is expanding its business globally, talked about their core business in Indonesia. He went on to explain the possibility of collaboration with Indonesian alumni on DX (Digital Transformation), such as 5G and facial recognition, and also efforts to curb carbon dioxide emissions.

Following on, the second speaker, Ms. Indri Tohir from PERSADA introduced the association by talking about the history of Indonesian students who have studied in Japan, dating back to the time before the war, the establishment of the association, their roles and activities. As activities of the association, with its long history and large membership, could be beneficial to the establishment of Indonesia Chapter of the Hiroshima University Alumni Association (HUA), this prompted a lively Q&A discussion.

In the opening and closing remarks made by Executive Vice President of Global Initiatives Shinji Kaneko, it was stated that establishing the Indonesia Chapter of HUA will be a vital first step in developing chapters in various countries, and that communication between all generations of alumni members including current Indonesian international students will be very important as well.

The next webinar for Indonesia Alumni will be held sometime between September and October.
