Purchase Request

Students and staff of Hiroshima University, and Friendly Members can request the library to purchase books that they need for learning and research. 

Please Note:

  • There is a limit to the price and number of items the library will purchase. If the library has reached its budget limit, purchase requests will be suspended for the remainder of the year.
  • Japanese books are expected to arrive about 1 month after the request is made. Foreign books are expected to take over 1 month at least.
  • The following types of books cannot be purchased:
  1. Exam reference books, employment test preparation books, qualification exam questions, etc.  
  2. Full collections of newspapers, magazines/journals, series, and other collection formats, and subscriptions for series that will be published into the next year.
  3. Materials that are not academic, and are too high in entertainment value.
  4. Textbooks used in classes. 

Besides these points, the library will purchase books that meet the library's selection guidelines. In general, if the request does not meet the guidelines it will not be purchased. 

Making a Request

  1. Please check OPAC thoroughly and confirm that Hiroshima University Library does not have the material before submitting a purchase request.
  2. Go to the Hiroshima University Library website and click the "New Purchase Request" link, or if you have found the material in OPAC at another university, click the "New Purchase Request" link on the material's page.
  3. Enter the title of the material, author name, publisher, ISBN number, and any other information into the form. 
     
  • In the "the reason for your request" field, please generally describe the reason that you are requesting the item. 
    For example: For my research in ..., I would like to learn more about ....
  • In the "the reason for your request" field, please include if you need the item in a certain time period, how many volumes you need, or any other specifications as well.
  • We will display the name of the requester, and reason for request in OPAC. 

Status Confirmation・Notification

  • You can check the status of your request at any time on the "Your Library Record" page, under the "Confirmation of the Purchase Request" section.
  • When the library cannot purchase the item you requested, you can click on the book name to find the reason for denial.    
  • When the item has arrived at the library, you will receive a "reserved book" arrival notice from the library. When you receive this mail, please come to the counter to receive the item.
  • If you do not pick up the item within one week, it will be moved to a shelf.
