Glass Art Experience Held as Part of the 2021 Summer Hiroshima University Kodomo Club (Schoolchildren's Club) Program

On July 29, 2021, two staff members from the Glass Workshop (Mr. Sato, Technical Specialist, and Mr. Fujihara, Chief Engineer) offered a hands-on workshop, "Glass Art Experience", as part of the Hiroshima University Summer Kodomo Club, which was organized by the Gender Equality Promotion Office to support the children of employees of Hiroshima University. Fifteen children took part in the event, which was held after taking precautions against COVID-19.

After an explanation on how to apply a design onto glass by Mr. Fujihara, the participants chose their favourite designs and applied the transfer sheets on a clear glass cup. They were fascinated to learn how the pattern on the sheet was transferred to the glass by heat, and how the colour of the pattern changed before and after applying heat. This experience seemed to be an opportunity for the children to develop an interest in everyday glassware.
