History of the Monozukuri (Craftwork) Plaza

Overview

The Monozukuri (Craftwork) Plaza operates as a common manufacturing facility for University members, consisting of the “Phoenix Factory” and the “Phoenix Workshop & Atelier,” and was established to provide educational and research support in the field of manufacturing for students, faculty members, and staff of Hiroshima University.

The Phoenix Factory consists of five workshops: Machine, Glass, Wood, Thin Section, and Electrical. Upon request, the technical staff at each workshop handle the design, prototyping, manufacturing, development and sample production of equipment, which are not generally available on the market, and respond to advanced and sophisticated technical needs using their expertise.  In addition, we provide Safety Training (at the Phoenix Workshop & Atelier) to students in the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Science, and offer practical training to enable them to acquire the skills necessary as engineers and/or researchers.

The Phoenix Workshop & Atelier, on the other hand, is a facility for students to acquire basic knowledge and skills through experience of manufacturing on their own initiative, as well as being a place where they can discover the joy of monozukuri (making things) through their own creative activities and by manufacturing items necessary for their research.
