Graduate Level

Important Notice for Graduate Level

Hiroshima University determines candidates for the university recommendation for the MEXT Scholarship based on recommendations from our graduate schools, taking into consideration the performance of inter-university exchanges and similar activities. Therefore, please understand that we do not accept applications or inquiries directly from individuals without going through their home university.
 

Q1. What are the steps and deadlines for applying for the MEXT University Recommendation?

A1. Candidates are selected among students at universities that have exchange relations with Hiroshima University.
For university recommendation, the first screening is conducted by each graduate school according to their own criteria. The application deadline varies by graduate school. Eligible students will be contacted by their respective graduate schools and faculty members.

For your reference, the MEXT Scholarship also offers an Embassy Recommendation Program. The process differs by country, so please contact the Japanese embassy in your country if you are interested in applying.
 

Q2. How can I proceed with the necessary steps to have my research plan and curriculum vitae reviewed by my prospective advisor?

A2. Hiroshima University offers an online system to initiate contact with prospective advisors for applicants who graduated from universities outside Japan and wish to enroll.

Please note that registering with IAAS does not mean you have entered the selection process for the MEXT University Recommendation. 

IAAS is a system that supports initiating contact with your prospective advisor.

Q3. Which programs have MEXT University Recommendation quotas for Master’s/Doctoral courses?

A3. The number of available quotas for University Recommendation is extremely limited, and the selection process is highly competitive. In some programs, there may currently be no quotas available for University Recommendation.

Undergraduate Level

Q1. Which programs have MEXT University Recommendation quotas for Bachelor’s courses?

A1. Currently, only the Department of Integrated Global Studies (IGS), School of Integrated Arts and Sciences is eligible for the MEXT Scholarship (University Recommendation) among our undergraduate programs. All courses in this program are delivered in English.

All other undergraduate programs are taught in Japanese. Therefore, it is essential to achieve sufficient mastery of the language before applying.
 

Common

Q1. Are there any language proficiency requirements for the MEXT University Recommendation process?

A1. Yes. Applicants are required to provide proof of sufficient proficiency in either Japanese or English. Detailed requirements, including the required level and acceptable documents, will be provided by the relevant graduate school or your prospective academic advisor. In addition, please be sure to check the language proficiency criteria specified in the admission guidelines of the program you wish to enroll.
