Borrowing Materials from Other Libraries

When there is a material that you need and cannot find on campus, copies of the materials can be ordered from other libraries through Hiroshima University Library. 

  • This service is only for members of Hiroshima University and Friendly Members.
  • The applicant is responsible for paying the costs of this service (copying fee, postage, etc.).
  • If you would like to ask for and use materials directly at another university or institution, please check this page. 

Please Confirm Before Applying: 

  • When materials are available at other Hiroshima University campuses or research labs, please go to use them yourself.
  • Please make absolute sure that the material is not available on any Hiroshima University campus through OPAC.
  • When applying for copies, the applicant accepts responsibility for any copyright considerations. Please make sure to confirm if your request complies with copyright law.
  • To ensure prompt acquisition of materials, users are, in principle, not permitted to specify duplication methods that place a burden on the lending library.

Ordering Copies of Materials

You can order copies of journal articles, books, and other such materials from other campuses and other institutions, as long as they comply with copyright law. 

  • You will not be able to specify requests such as size, double-sided printing, etc. It will be an actual size copy of the original material.
  • You cannot order copies of the most recent issues of journals. Please wait until the next issue is published, or until a substantial amount of time has passed since publishing (about 3 months).
  • To copy a complete book or doctoral dissertation, permission from the author of the original material must be obtained.
  • Copies of valuable materials will take longer, and cost more money than normal materials. 

Application

Click the "Interlibrary Copy Request" button on the library website and enter the required information to apply for a copy.

  •  When a material is available on another Hiroshima University campus through RapidILL, it will be prioritized.
  • After checking the price and terms at each available location, the library will decide which institution to order copies from. If there is a library you would like to obtain copies from, please make note in the "Notes" field of the application form.
  • When paying with public funds, only administrative subsidies are accepted. When applying, please enter your department's 6-digit administrative subsidy number in the correct field.
  • If you would like to pay the cost as a research fee or with a subsidy, please apply to pay with personal funds, and request a reimbursement from the appropriate place.
  • If you select "EDDS" as the sending method, the copy will arrive as a PDF file, accessible through the website (only when the public funds (administrative subsidies) payment method is selected). 

RapidILL

RapidILL is a system that facilitates the exchange of copied materials in electronic formats such as PDF through cooperation with other institutions, including overseas institutions. Although a duplication fee is required, no shipping costs are incurred, allowing for faster and more cost-effective access to copies compared to traditional methods.

Please note that materials will be provided in paper format, and a duplication fee will be charged.

Electronic Document Delivery Service: EDDS

EDDS is a service that allows you to request electronic (PDF file, etc.) copies of materials located in Hiroshima University's libraries, and receive them through the library website. If you select EDDS as your delivery method, you can receive copies of materials without coming to the library. 

  • This service is only available to to faculty members who can pay the fees with their operating grants.
  • Materials located in research labs are not available for this service.
  • You cannot specify the scan size.

  • Operating hours: Cashless payment is available during service hours; cash is available on weekdays from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Please check with each library for the types of cashless payment methods available.
Payment methods may be specified by the ordering library. (Bank transfer, stamps, etc.)

  • Please pick up your materials at each library you selected when you applied (Central, West, Kasumi, and East Senda Libraries).
  • Please show your student/staff ID when you pick up your materials.
  • Upon request, a representative can also pick up the materials.

  • There is no additional paper work for payment.
  • Depending on where the materials are ordered from, procedures may be further requested, in which case you will be notified separately.
  • In the case of public expense payment, copies of materials will be sent to each laboratory by intra-campus mail.
  • If you select EDDS as the mailing category, we will inform you of the URL and other information by e-mail.

Books order from the library

You can order books from other campuses and university libraries.

  • New books (newly arrived books) cannot be ordered.
  • Depending on the borrowing library's rules and condition of the materials, there might be restrictions on the use of the materials, such as viewing only in the library, photocopying is not allowed, and so on.
  • As per the regulations, journals cannot be ordered.
  • Materials from the collections of Hiroshima Prefectural Library, Hiroshima City Library, and Higashi-Hiroshima City Library can be requested free of charge. For details, please click here.

If you want to order books from other campus libraries, you can do so from the “Bibliographic Details” screen of OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog).
