Mathematics Program

In the Mathematics Program, students are educated to recognize the beauty of the mathematical system through the specialized education of mathematics, access the result of contemporary research to cultivate his/her interest and motivation towards research activities, and foster their international sense through a reading session for foreign literatures and domestic and international exchanges. In addition to this, the Program aims to educate students to obtain not only advanced ability, expertise, and wide knowledge required for research activities in Mathematics but also the capability of application, analysis, evaluation, and integration of the expertise for creative activities.

The Program aims to develop a researcher who will develop mathematics and related areas, who can mathematically analyze problems in an industry or other scientific areas, educator who can understand the essence of the modern mathematics and provide education based on it, and an engineer who have the ability to think logically and closely, who have free imagination and creativity and is capable of solving problems while cooperating with mathematicians and other people.

Physics Program

The Physics Program aims to develop human resources with a broad knowledge of physics as well as logical thinking. Students will be able to promote research in astrophysics/astronomy, elementary particle/ nuclear physics, condensed matter physics using advanced light sources such as synchrotrons and laser as well as synchrotron radiation science. They will train to in international environments and contribute to society by utilizing their educational backgrounds and research experiences in basic science.

The Program is composed of a wide range of fields within physics, which forms the basis of natural science, such as astrophysics/astronomy, elementary particle/nuclear physics, condensed matter physics using advanced light sources as well as synchrotron radiation science. Students will acquire expertise by participating in advanced research and pursuing scientific truths. In addition, the Program will give researchers, educators and highly-skilled engineers broad perspectives, train their problem solving skills and foster abilities for research and development allowing them to contribute to solving various social issues.

Earth and Planetary Systems Science Program

The Earth and Planetary Systems Science Program regards various phenomena on Earth and planets as “a system”, through observation from microscopic to macroscopic spatial scales. We aim to discover and solve problems in the Earth and planetary systems from the perspectives of both science and society.

Through our Program, students will be able to obtain particular expertise and research skills in basic and applied areas of Earth and planetary science. The Program develops the students’ career paths to become a scientist, educator, and highly professional engineer with internationality and capability to contribute to society from a broader perspective.

Basic Chemistry Program

The Basic Chemistry Program aims to educate students to systematically obtain expertise regarding physical chemistry, organic chemistry, and inorganic chemistry to establish their knowledge base of basic chemistry, improve the ability for identifying and solving problems thorough the research activities for elucidating any universal law or basic principle regarding the molecule structure and chemical reaction, and develop the sensibility and general judgment required for exploring the truth. In addition to this, the Program allows students to observe cutting-edge research activities to develop human resources who are capable of applying their expertise to cross-disciplinary research activities and of solving social problems.

The Program develops engineers and highly professional engineers who have expertise and experiment skills in areas of the basic chemistry and can contribute to solve social problems from a broad point of view and educators who have expertise and knowledge in areas of the basic chemistry and can transmit the knowledge regarding the universal chemical laws and fundamental principles for the future.

Applied Chemistry Program

The mission of the Applied Chemistry Program is to nurture our students as researchers and scientists who can design, synthesize, assemble, characterize, and analyze novel materials at the atomic and/or molecular levels, through teaching interdisciplinary subject relating chemistry and research activities. In response to the social demands, the program also aims to create and discover novel functional materials that are friendly to the environment, and that produce energy through the approaches based on the chemistry, including new synthetic methodologies and analytical technologies.

Our goal is to contribute to the global society by producing people and by discovering and disseminating new materials and scientific knowledge on fundamentals and applications of chemistry.

Chemical Engineering Program

The Chemical Engineering Program aims to contribute to development of a sustainable recycling society in which the problems regarding environment, energy, and resources are solved through the creation of new functional materials and development of an efficient cycle of manufacture, separation, and recycling processes on the basis of knowledge and technology related to transfer, conversion, and circulation of materials and energy.

The Program develops highly professional engineers and researchers who have the ability to identify and solve problems from local and global points of view based on the knowledge regarding chemistry and the chemical engineering and are capable of contributing to development of the manufacturing industry including the chemical industry in the next generation.

Electrical, Systems, and Control Engineering Program

The Electrical, Systems, and Control Engineering Program aims to develop a methodology for various actual systems such as those for controlling electric energy system and information processing that compose the important technological foundation supporting the modern society of the information age to contribute to communion with society and harmonic co-existence with the global environment from a global point of view.

The Program develops researchers and highly professional engineers capable of taking a leading role in development of advanced technology based on a wide range of basic knowledge required for effectively operating an actual system that supports society such as a large and complicated system and a system organically integrated with the mankind from a point of view regarding the system engineering and professional knowledge of the state-of-the-art technology and applications.

Mechanical Engineering Program

The Mechanical Engineering Program aims to promote advanced and sophisticated research related to the mechanical engineering, take a leading role for solving problems from a cross-disciplinary point of view, and provide the results of such activities to contribute to establish an affluent and sustainable international multicultural coexistence society.

The Program develops researchers and highly professional engineers who are capable of promoting machine design and manufacturing technology, and research and development for optimization, functional enhancement and intellectualization of the next generation machine system from a wide and global perspective based on professional knowledge regarding the mechanical engineering and a wide range of knowledge and intelligence required for its engineering application.

Transportation and Environmental Systems Program

The Transportation and Environmental Systems Program aims to contribute to the international society by comprehensively solving technical problems regarding the transport equipment and distribution system from a broad point of view regarding the global environment protection, developing and establishing technology that contribute to the sustainable development of society, and developing engineers and researchers who can be engaged in such processes.

The Program develops researchers and highly professional engineers who can create and establish a system for coexistence in which artificial objects such as transport equipment and the natural environment coexist in harmony on the basis of a wide range of basic and applied knowledge regarding the transportation system engineering and environmental system engineering, and comprehensively solve social problems or conduct advanced research while promoting mutual understanding with the other area of expertise.

Architecture Program

The Architecture Program aims to develop architectural production technology required for rationally realizing and maintaining safety and comfortability of architecture familiar for mankind and cities that are composed of such architecture as well as engineers and researchers who support such development to contribute to development of people's life and society at home and abroad.

The Program develops researchers and highly professional engineers who have expertise regarding planning, structure, design, environment, material, and the production of architecture and urban planning and practical ability to integrate such knowledge and are capable of promoting the development of technology that meets the needs of the users of architecture and society and other activities at home or abroad.

Civil and Environmental Engineering Program

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Program aims to contribute to make the land and region safe, secure, and comfortable to live in through the educations of engineers and researchers in infrastructure. The technologies developed in the program enables design and management of facilities of social infrastructure, mitigation of natural disasters (i.e. earthquakes and floods), maintenance and restoration of natural environments, and the solution of problems regarding the global environment.

This program produces the following alumni; the technocrats who have a wide range of knowledge regarding the structure of engineering, disaster prevention engineering, and environmental engineering and take a central role in maintenance of the national/regional social infrastructure and disaster prevention, the construction engineers with advanced technology and management capacity to give comprehensive solutions in challenges regarding the social infrastructure at home and abroad, and the researchers and highly professional engineers who pioneer a new area of industry regarding to the maintenance and restoration technology of natural environment.

Informatics and Data Science Program

The Informatics and Data Science Program aims to promote the research and development of advanced technology regarding the informatics and data science and develop human resources who continuously try to make progress in a new academic area and can survive the international competition to contribute to society.

The Program develops researchers and highly professional engineers who have obtained the ability to exercise advanced skills for solving social and academic problems in the field of advanced research and development and has superior characteristics required for internationally promoting research and development activities as a member of the team based on knowledge and skills regarding informatics and data science.

Quantum Matter Program

The Quantum Matter Program provides education and research in areas related to the physics and electronic engineering including materials science and condensed material physics. That is to say, the education and research in the Program aims to create a material that demonstrates a new quantum phenomenon and reveal the inner state of the material and interaction between it and the external field using experiments and theories based on physics. In addition to this, the Program contributes to develop the material science and engineering that is based on condensed material physics and the electronic engineering that covers areas from electronic and optical devices to integrated systems. The Program aims to contribute to the international and local societies by developing human resources who can work for solving social problems and by transmitting superior research results through the education and research activities.

The Program develops researchers, educators, and highly professional engineers who have obtained expertise regarding materials science, condensed material physics, material science and engineering, and electronic engineering and are able to contribute to the international and local societies by applying the expertise to creation, design, and realization of a material, device, and system that has a new function society requires.

Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering Program

The Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering Program aims to develop a "knowledge-intensive society" by merging the existing academic systems beyond the border among them from a bird's eye view while being based on the core area of expertise such as the natural environment, natural disasters, integrated physics, information system, media, and development technology. To achieve the aim, the Program educates students to obtain expertise and research skills for environmental problems, environmental risks related to resources and energy problems, elemental sciences and systems regarding areas from the materials for life and ecosystems, and environmental information related to the system in which mankind coexists with information technology and the media from a nature-oriented point of view. Students will also develop an ability to contribute to society based on understanding and insight for the natural science and information science throughout the Program. In addition to this, from a human-oriented point of view, the Program encourages students to research the theories and analysis methods for the development of human-oriented technology for development issues in developing nations such as urban development, community development, industrial promotion, and environment protection to obtain an ability to globally contribute to sustainable development.

In addition, the Program is organized as a multi- and inter-disciplinary diploma program in which Japanese and foreign students with various academic backgrounds study together to realize innovation domestically and internationally in cooperation with advanced professionals in various fields. The Program develops researchers and educators who understand a human-oriented point of view and have obtained research abilities, expertise, professional skills, and cross-disciplinary points of view for the areas of core expertise and related areas such as the natural environment, natural disasters, integrated physics, information system, media, and development technology. The Program will also foster technocrats and advanced professionals who have a bird's eye view and problem solving capability based on understanding of diverse cultures and global insight.

Smart Innovation Program

Smart Innovation Program aims to contribute to the creation of new industries through the development of new smart materials, smart measurement and control systems based on knowledge and technologies related to digital manufacturing technologies such as model-based development and data / signal analysis.

The program also aims to develop deep expertise in smart material development, smart measurement and control. Moreover, in close cooperation with industry, to understand the needs of society from multiple angles and apply and combine advanced expertise, it aims to train professional engineers and researchers with excellent practical skills.
