UD-Books

What is a UD-Book?

UD-Book is accessible by using text-to-speech and highlighting features in the same layout as the original book.

This book is suitable for use by those who can better understand the content if the text is read aloud as well as written, those who find it easier to read by highlighting the part they are reading along with the audio, and those who have difficulty turning the paper pages.

UD-Book

Hiroshima University Library will cooperate in the creation and provision of audio-enabled and digitized textbooks (UD-Book textbooks) to be implemented by the Ujima Laboratory of the Graduate School of Human and Social Sciences (formerly Graduate School of Education) at Hiroshima University starting in FY2019, We have been working to improve the learning environment and accessibility for students in elementary, junior high, and senior high schools and special-needs schools nationwide.

UD-Book textbook website(Ujima Laboratory)

Starting in FY2024, Hiroshima University Library and Ujima Laboratory will collaborate to create accessible non-textbook (UD- Books) with audio and text available upon request from children and students who have difficulty reading paper books. The UD-Books will be made available not only to the client but also to people throughout Japan who have difficulty reading paper books through school libraries and public libraries.

This will not only support students' school assignments (writing, etc.) and independent learning but also provide an environment where students and people with difficulties in reading paper books can read the books they want to read when they want to read them.
