If you wish to browse, photograph, publish, or reprint of rare materials, Chinese classics, etc., please check below.

Browsing Materials

1. Preliminary confirmation

Viewing Procedure

  • Submit a holdings research request.
  • Consult with our staff regarding desired viewing dates.
  • Obtain prior permission before accessing materials.

    Note: Research and coordination may require significant time. Please initiate your request well in advance of your intended viewing date.

Important Information

  • Some materials listed in the following catalogs as belonging to Hiroshima University were destroyed during wartime:
  1. Kokusho Sou Mokuroku (General Catalogue of Japanese Books)
  2. General Catalogue of Japanese Classics Database (National Institute of Japanese Literature)

2. Request to View

  • Please fill out the “Application for Permission to Use Valuable Materials, etc.” at least one week prior to the desired date of use, and send it by e-mail attachment or postal mail to the following address for submission and inquiries.

The person in charge will contact you by e-mail regarding permission for use.

For deposited materials (Kaketsumiya Bunko and Hiraga family documents), an application must be submitted at least 3 weeks in advance. 

Application forms are not available on the web, so please contact us in advance.

3. Browsing Documents

When you need to use, please come to the check-out/return counter on the 1st floor of the Central Library with your ID (student ID, staff ID, driver's license, etc.).

Available days and times for browsing

  • Class periods: Weekdays 9:00-17:00
  • Closed period: Weekdays 9:00-16:30
    ※Excluding holidays and limited service days.

Compliance Items Regulations

Browsing must be done at the location designated by the staff in charge.
Handle materials carefully so as not to alter their current condition.Do not use any writing utensils other than pencils softer than B hardness.
If you wish to bring in items other than writing instruments, please obtain permission from the staff member in.
Follow the instructions of the staff in charge.

Documents' Photography (Copy/Printing)

•    If you wish to photograph materials, please select not only "viewing" but also "photocopying" in the usage method section of the "Application for Permission to Use Rare Materials, etc."
•    Please bring your own photography equipment. Note that photocopying machines are not available for use.
•    If you wish to obtain photocopies through a commercial service provider, please contact us.
 

Publication and Transcription of Materials

•    If you wish to publish or transcribe materials, please select not only "viewing" but also "publication" or "transcription" in the usage method section of the "Application for Permission to Use Rare Materials, etc."
•    If you have a specific project proposal for publication or transcription, please submit it together with the Application for Permission to Use Rare Materials, etc.
•    Please donate one copy of any publication created.
 

Lending of Materials for Exhibitions, etc.

In principle, we do not lend materials outside the library. If you wish to use materials for exhibitions or similar purposes, please consult with us.

Use of Digital Images

  • No application is required for viewing publicly available images.ん。
  • If you wish to reproduce digital images not publicly available through the Hiroshima University Library Digital Archive, or to make secondary use through reproduction for publication, etc., you must download the "Application for Permission to Use Digital Images" (PDFWordInstructions)in PDF/Word format and submit it to the contact information to obtain prior permission.
  • If you have a specific project proposal regarding the purpose of use, please submit it together with your application.
  • Permission decisions will be communicated by email from the person in charge approximately one week after receipt of
