Human Culture:Cultivating intelligence and sensibility for a rich humanity.

It is important for all people to cultivate intelligence and sensibility in living and growing as a member of society.  The Program in Human Culture approaches this basic problem from the viewpoints of thought, art, and literature to offer classes through which the students will be able to build a firm foundation for a rich humanity.  In the classes related to thought, we examine basic problems in human life, such as “life and death,” “good and evil,” and “truth.”  In the classes related to art, we study the history of the changes of our aesthetic sensibility and the development of art.  In the classes related to literature, we explore a universal human image.  Through these three kinds of classes, you will be able to firmly build a foundation for an intelligent, sensitive, lively life.

Consequently, they will develop their critical-thinking skills which enables them to analyze and comprehend linguistic phenomena and information using integrative approaches.
By expanding their knowledge of theoretical linguistics, improving their communicative competence, and understanding the social roles of language, they will gain in cross-cultural understanding, leading them towards making positive contributions for international exchange.

Human movement is observed in all circumstances including daily lives, labour, medical care, arts, and sports. It relates to many problems we are facing in society such as aging, decline in athletic ability, obesity, and stress. In this field, we aim at exploring "how movement improves our lives for the better" and "what are human beigns?" from interdisciplinary perspectives. We approach these issues by considering the value of health, competition, education and entertainment of physical movement as well as analyzing them independently within a cultural context.
