広島大学生物生産学部では、協定校等の学生・教員を招いて国際サマースクールを2026年9月7日（月）から11日（金）までの5日間にわたり開催しました。

同サマースクールは、統合生命科学研究科と国際交流協定校を中心とした海外大学の学生や若手研究者がグローバルな視野で知識と技術を共有することを目的に2008年より開催しているもので、18回目となる今年度も例年通り、各大学から学生と共に教員を招聘することで、実質的な共同研究始動の機会としました。また、サマースクールのテーマを「持続可能な開発目標（SDGs）達成のための国際サマースクール in Hiroshima」とし、各国でSDGsを達成するための取り組み、課題などを発表するシンポジウムを9月10日（木）に開催しました。

初日には3か国・5大学から15名の教員・学生が一堂に集い、サマースクールが開始されました。

ウェルカムパーティーでは、和やかな雰囲気の中、軽食を囲んで本学の学生との活発な国際交流が行われ、参加者同士の親睦を深める有意義な時間となりました。日本文化体験では、参加者が好みの浴衣に身を包み、写真撮影を楽しみました。

研究科留学説明会では、鈴木国際交流委員長から大学の紹介、留学について説明があり、続いて本学で学んでいる国費外国人留学生から自身の留学の経緯や生活についてプレゼンテーションがありました。

研究室見学では、学生チューター引率のもと、水圏統合科学プログラム、応用動植物科学プログラム、食品科学プログラム、分子農学生命科学プログラムの4プログラムの研究室を回り、最先端の設備やそれぞれの研究活動について学ぶ機会を得ました。

2日目及び3日目には、参加者の専門分野に応じた「サイエンスプログラムワーク」に参加し、受入教員、本学学生とともに実際に手を動かして先端科学技術を体験しました。

4日目午前中、株式会社サタケへ企業見学に出かけました。そこでは農学科学分野の社会実装を学び、外国人人材を積極的に採用して世界展開につなげている実態を知ることで、留学へのモチベーションをさらに高めました。

午後からの国際シンポジウムでは、17のSDGsのそれぞれに自らの研究がどのように貢献するか、課題は何かなど、サマースクール参加教員5名及び本学教員1名の発表及び質疑応答を通して議論を深めました。また、同時開催のポスター発表では、サマースクール参加学生10名及び本学の大学院生10名の研究発表が行われ、70名の教職員・学生が参加しました。

国際シンポジウム終了後は、フェアウェルパーティーが開催され、参加者へは小池学部長から修了証と記念品が授与されました。教職員・学生アシスタントら37名が参加し、参加者との別れを惜しみつつ、更なる交流を深めました。

5日目の最終日には、広島の歴史を学ぶツアーが実施されました。広島市の平和記念資料館や原爆ドーム、宮島訪問を通して、広島が辿った唯一無二の歴史を俯瞰し、平和希求のシンボリックな都市に成長した過程を学ぶことにより、広島で学ぶ意義を深めました。

• Overall, the International Summer School by Hiroshima University was excellent! From the preparation and ensuring that we have our visa, poster, reports, the staff are really hands-on and helpful to us; until our very last day in Hiroshima, everything was so smooth. I am happy that while being productive and learning new things, I am exposed to how life in Hiroshima may look like for me in the future as I plan to pursue my PhD here. The facilities, resources, laboratory, and specialties of different senseis were superb. I am grateful for this experience because it inspires me to strive more, do better, and aim higher because endless opportunities are given to those who are risking. I cannot think of a suggestion to have this program be better in the future, because what I experienced was so commendable that I cannot think of a thing that needs to be better. I am hoping to be back in Hiroshima soon! Arigato gozaimasu, Hiroshima University, Japan!
• The international summer school was a memory to cherish and an opportunity of a lifetime. To be honest, everything that happened in the summer really gave me a different perspective on the study I’m working on right now. I guess there’s not much of suggestions since it was already an excellent flow of program and the schedule was properly followed. I hope that this summer school will continue so that other students can experience the same kind of excitement and happiness. Thank you so much Hiroshima University. See you next time, hopefully as a Master’s student.
• Overall, the program had met its goals. As participants, we are now interested to return to Hirodai as students♡ I hope this program will continue.
• To conclude, the International Summer School was an amazing experience that I believe could change a person’s life. For me, it helped me establish a clearer direction for my life and career. I have nothing to complain about; every part of the experience was meaningful in its own way. My message to future participants is to allow themselves to be fully present in every moment because these moments are fleeting. • Overall, the 2026 International Summer School was an incredible, well-organized, and memorable experience. I truly appreciate the warm hospitality from Hiroshima University, the professors, mentors, and fellow students who made every session informative and engaging. The combination of lab visits, hands-on program works, and cultural study tours gave us a great balance of academic and cultural enrichment.  For future improvements, my main suggestion would be to extend the time allotted for the poster session during the International Symposium, as participants have prepared a lot and would love more time for meaningful discussions and Q&A. Overall, thank you so much to all the organizers and staff for making this program a huge success!
• Even though the program was made 10 years ago, it is still very efficient. It is not so compacted, which really gives us time to catch up on our research and allows me to comprehend the realities and possibilities of taking my doctoral studies here if accepted. Thank you so much for inviting us. We have created memories and friends we will be connecting with for a long time. We have all became great friends with one common goal: innovative advancements for the SDGs!
• A very great way to let students experience world class quality of instruction and research, and to encourage students to pursue higher studies internationally specially at Hiroshima University.
• The overall program was well organized and provided a valuable opportunity for academic learning, cultural exchange, and networking with international participants. The combination of lectures, practical activities, field visits, and the symposium made the program engaging and meaningful. Overall, the International Summer School and Symposium was a valuable and enjoyable experience, and I would encourage the continuation of this program with more opportunities for international collaboration and academic networking.
