【Report】 Fourteenth WCAJ Symposium on Writing Centers in Asia: What Is a Writing Center?

HU Writing Center has hosted the Fourteenth Writing Centers Association of Japan (WCAJ) Symposium on Writing Centers in Asia. The theme of the symposium was “What Is a Writing Center?”.

The symposium was held at Hiroshima University Higashi-Senda Innovative Research Center in Hiroshima City. It was the first time this event was in the Chugoku area. Forty-eight attendees participated in the symposium, of which there were eighteen presenters giving twelve oral presentations. In addition to presenters from various institutions in Japan, we also had two international presenters from Russia and the United States. Two additional speakers, Professor Paul Wai-Ling Lai and Professor Emeritus Tom Gally, were invited to give two keynote speeches. Their respective titles were: “Redefining Writing Centers in the Age of AI: A Practical Approach from the Nagoya University Writing Center” and “Writing Centers and the Future of Learning”.

We sincerely thank all the participants for their intellectually-stimulating presentations and insightful comments at the symposium. We also want to thank the WCAJ Organizing Committee, especially Ivan Botev, Nick Delgrego and Kimie Yamamura for their help and guidance.
