Research Student

Students wishing to study a specific subject, at either the undergraduate or graduate level, may be admitted as Research Students (‟kenkyuusei”). The research period for Research Students shall be one semester (first semester or second semester) or one academic year. Research Students are not entitled to degrees upon completion of thier research work.

Most applicants for admission to a graduate school gain admission to the University as a Research Student first, and then prepare for the entrance examination to the graduate school of their choice while researching their subject in more detail.

Please discuss the substance of your research with the professor under whom you wish to study before applying.

To contact your prospective host professor (supervisor), please click the banner below to apply through the Hiroshima University International Admission Office (IAO) System. Please access the IAO System earlier than the application period for Research Students, as it takes time to confirm the informal consent of the supervisor.

After obtaining informal consent from their prospective supervisor through the IAO System, applicants wishing to enroll as a research student at the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences are required to complete the application procedure by the deadline based on the application guidelines for the program which your prospective supervisor is mainly in charge. Please refer the following list for inquiries and admission guidelines.
