How to Calculate the Hospitalization Charges (For Those Who Have a Japanese Health Insurance Card)

Unlike Free-for-service (FFS), hospital charges are calculated based on fixed medical costs per day, which are decided depending on the date of admission as well as the patient’s illness and condition. (It is called Diagnosis Procedure Combination (DPC).)
DPC is applicable to basic hospital charges, examinations, prescribed medicines, injections, imaging diagnostics and so on. However, operations will be calculated by FFS.
As some diseases or treatments are not included under DPC, they will be calculated by FFS.

This payment system only applies to those who have a Japanese health insurance card.
