The following article introduces the internship experience of Tomomatsu Chihiro, a third-year student in the Department of Integrated Global Studies, at the Hirayama Ikuo Museum of Art in Setoda, Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture.

During the internship, she gained hands-on experience in a wide range of museum operations and cultural outreach activities, including assisting with the planning of guided exhibition tours, creating publicity materials, supporting gallery tours and workshops for children and families, and providing English-language guidance for visitors from overseas.

Through interactions with a diverse range of visitors, she developed a deeper understanding of the connection between art and local communities, as well as the role museums play in society and the significance of cultural outreach activities.

As part of the internship, she was also given the opportunity to contribute an article to the Onomichi Shimbun. Her article, reflecting on the lessons and insights she gained through the internship, was published in Issue No. 2213 of the newspaper on September 5, 2026.
