Call for Proposals for 2024 IWCA Annual Conference

We at the Writing Center would like to announce that the International Writing Centers Association (IWCA) has released a call for proposals for its 2024 Annual Conference.

As you may remember from a previous announcement, Professor Tingjia Wang has been appointed to the IWCA’s Board at Large. Well, we are also pleased to announce that she is the Conference Chair of the 2024 IWCA Annual Conference! As such, we hope that members of Hiroshima University will take this unique opportunity to submit proposals for Panel Presentations, Workshops, Special Interest Groups, and Roundtable Discussions and join Professor Wang at the conference.

This year’s conference theme is “Technology-Enhanced Writing” and it will be held online via Whova and Zoom on October 21st- October 27th, 2024. Suggested topics for proposals include ethical and equity considerations in AI-generated academic writing, training and assessment of writing advisors and tutors, and many more. However, you can feel free to propose any topic you feel would fit the theme of the conference.

In addition to these presentation and discussion formats, you can apply to participate in “Work-in-Progress” sessions. In these sessions, you can join either a one-on-one or group consultation for your current academic writing project with an international writing center scholar! You must also submit a proposal to participate in these “Work-in-Progress” sessions.

The format for proposals is 500 words, with 100 words for the abstract (to appear in the conference program), a 300-word description, and 100-word rationale for the selected format.

Proposals are due on May 27th. More information about registration prices and deadlines will be released later in April.

Good luck, and we hope to see you there!
