This interactive workshop will explore the importance of making key decisions that will influence the success of your journal article before you start writing. Participants will identify the message and audience(s) of their research, noting how this stage of the process will not only inform their choice of journal but also guide the content of their article. The combination of short talks and activities will support participants in creating a personalised plan for publication that can be followed after the workshop. Together, we will revisit what we think we know about the earliest stages of the journal publication process, showing that each publication represents a fresh journey that requires a strategic, tailored approach to increase the chances of success.
