Peter Karagiannis holds a Ph.D. in the biomedical sciences and has spent more than 15 years at Japanese universities supporting researchers in academic writing and publication. Through this work, he has identified recurring challenges faced by Japanese scientists and has helped develop programs to simplify academic writing and scientific presentations. He has published dozens of academic reviews and commentaries across biomedical fields and has contributed to the development of international research exchange partnerships.
In December 2023, Hiroshima University was selected for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT)'s Program for Forming Japan's Peak Research Universities (J-PEAKS). As part of this initiative, the Hiroshima University Writing Center strengthened its support system by further developing the former "Writing Advisor Fellowship Program" into the newly established "Writing Advisor" program. In addition, to further enhance support for scientific paper writing, the Writing Center established the new position of "Scientific Editor" in 2026, providing specialized support grounded in expertise in the natural sciences.
Scientific Editor and Writing Advisors primarily provide consultation and support to graduate students and faculty members of Hiroshima University regarding the writing of research papers in English.

Noémi is an applied linguist holding an MA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Language Pedagogy and English Applied Linguistics at ELTE Eötvös Loránd University (Hungary). Her research focuses on pronunciation teaching and the integration of pronunciation in the foreign language classroom. Before joining Hiroshima University, she taught a range of courses, including research methodology, applied linguistics, linguistics, and ICT methodology. Noémi has also supervised projects across areas such as applied linguistics, linguistics, and social science, and she can work with researchers at different stages of their research to support their academic writing process.
Julie is an editor, researcher, and writer who gained her PhD in English from Queen Mary, University of London, where she also taught modules on literary topics and research-based writing. She believes that compelling prose is an essential component in the successful dissemination of research, so she encourages academic researchers of all disciplines to be reflexive and think of themselves as writers in order to hone their arguments, reach their audiences, and achieve their goals. Julie can collaborate with researchers to navigate the genres of academic writing (abstracts, articles, chapters, presentations) and address questions of argument, structure, and style.
Yuhong is a linguist focusing on phonology and phonetics He received his Ph D in Linguistics from The Ohio State University in 2023 During his time in graduate school, Yuhong was the instructor of "Analyzing the Sounds of Language", a course that covers English phonetics, statistics and scientific writing He has also served as a reviewer for multiple linguistic journals and conferences Yuhong believes that a primary goal of academic writing is to engage in relevant conversations and debates in the field, and is eager to help other researchers contribute to their respective disciplines.
Adele Pitkeathly was Director of Studies at UNSW Institute of Languages, with responsibility for an international student group of up to 2,000 and 150 English language English teaching staff in Academic and Professional English programs. She has been involved in designing and providing specialised educational programs for staff and students of partner universities and government agencies with a goal of increasing internationalization. She has a background as a TESOL Teacher Trainer, IELTS examiner and International Student Advisor as well as over 15 years teaching and coordinating English language courses.
