The Global Career Design Center has been hosting a career event called “HU Coffee Chats (Hiroshima University Coffee Chats)” since October 2024.
In the event, we invite young highly skilled international professionals who are active in Japan after studying at the graduate school or while enrolled as students to provide insights about their experiences with graduate studies, job hunting, and practical work after employment.
Participating students and young researchers learn from the careers of these young highly skilled international professionals—who share similar backgrounds and generations—as the latest role models, while networking with them. This aims to further promote the employment of young highly skilled international professionals in Japan, advance Japan's globalization, and contribute to realizing innovation between Japan and the world.
Dr. Narendra Sarda from Kanadevia
Dr. Narendra Sarda earned his Ph.D. in Life and Material Science from Tokushima University, Japan.
After completing his doctorate, he joined Kanadevia Corporation in Osaka in 2017 as an engineer. Over the years, he has embraced diverse roles, transitioning from Researcher to System Engineer and later to Process Engineer. He was seconded to Kanadevia’s subsidiary in Zurich, Switzerland, where he contributed to the world’s largest Waste-to-Energy plant. During his one-and-a-half year tenure there, he worked as a System Engineer, and later as a Global Coordinator and Process Engineer. Recently, Dr. Sarda made a significant career shift from engineering to HR – People and Culture Department, with a mission to hire and support global talent at Kanadevia.
His vision is to provide international professionals with a platform to develop their careers in Japan. He strongly encourages students to learn Japanese language and culture, as this is key to building a successful career in Japan. With over 13 years of experience in Japan, Dr. Sarda shares valuable perspectives on building a successful career as a foreign professional.
The session will feature presentation based on real experiences in career development in home countries and Japan, followed by Q&A and discussion with participants.
