Urging your support towards ‘Emergency Aid for HU Students’ in response to further spread of novel coronavirus in recent weeks (request)

23rd April 2020 (Reiwa 2)

As you may know, following a sharp increase in the number of outbreak cases of the novel coronavirus, Japanese government expanded the declaration of a state of emergency to all 47 prefectures including Hiroshima Prefecture in Japan on 16th April.

In line with that, the governor of Hiroshima Prefecture made the official announcement on 18th April in which he requested all the relevant businesses be closed down from 22nd April until 6th May 2020. Because of that, many students are feeling uneasy and stressed at home as they are not able to devote themselves in full expectations to studying on campus or engage themselves with some extracurricular activities at Hiroshima University (HU) even though the new academic terms has already begun in April. I have been informed that some HU students are having financial difficulties and are not able to feed themselves properly as a result of losing regular income from their part-time work.

Today, HU has decided to start asking donations by using a funding system at HU. The aid is to support those HU students as much as possible, who are currently under great financial difficulties. Although it may be quite draining on your wallet at this time of the year, I would be very grateful if you could be obliged to contribute towards the good cause of this Aid. What follows are the details of this Aid:

Deadline for donation: until 17:00 on Monday, 15th June 2020 (Reiwa 2)

Where to donate: please kindly contact by e-mail Office of Funding at Hiroshima University for further instructions.

Handling of the donation: Emergency Scolarship for HU Students in response to further spread of novel coronavirus in recent weeks

Other notes: any donation you will make to HU Funds is considered as tax deductible for your contribution and is entitled for the following tax deductions: contribution deduction for income tax; individual inhabitant tax (i.e. prefectural inhabitants tax).

*To be entitled for tax incentive, you need to retain a receipt issued by National University Corporation of Hiroshima University. Please remember to keep it until the time of your next tax return.

Mitsuo Ochi,
President of Hiroshima University
