■ 要旨：It is widely acknowledged that tropical forests harbour immense biodiversity and contribute significantly to global carbon stocks. In the past few decades, great progress has been made on understanding their ecology with the use of data from long-term monitoring plots. In this talk, I will cover some of the work that has been done in the Forest GEO Bukit Timah plots in Singapore, the benefits that have emerged from this investment in physical and human capital, and the challenges that face long-term research efforts in tropical forests.
