1. New students who cannot come to Japan
The following information is for new students admitted to HU but cannot enter Japan.
1. Orientation for new international students
Orientation for new international students will be held online to avoid COVID-19.
The information of the orientation will be posted on moodle, so please check it there.
The contents of the orientation session will be available online from Momiji, HU’s student portal, which is home to a collection of important information for students at Hiroshima University.
Please contact the support office of your department for information about department-specific orientation.

3. Procedures for returning to Japan or coming to Japan
From 0AM, April 29(Sat), 2023, all entrants are not requested to present either of the following documents upon entry into Japan.
・Valid vaccination certificate
・(If you don't have valid vaccination certificate)Certificate of testing for COVID-19 within 72 hours prior to departure
(Procedures below are in effect until April 28(Fri.), 2023)
〇Regarding procedures for the entry to Japan
1.Acquisition of the negative certificate for COVID-19 before leaving for Japan】
1) If you have a valid vaccination certificate, you are exempted from obtaining negative certificate before leaving for Japan.The conditions to be a valid vaccination certificate can be checked here.
2) If you DON'T have a valid vaccination certificate,Please obtain a certificate of testing for COVID-19 within 72 hours prior to departure. If you do not have this certificate at the time of entry, you will not be allowed to enter Japan.

2.The isolation period and location
As of October 11, 2022, entrants from any of countries/regions are not subject to self-quarantine after entry into Japan.

3.Use of Visit Japan Web Service
You can complete quarantine procedures before you enter Japan with the app "Visit Japan Web Service".
*Please complete the pre-application via the app at least 6 hours prior to your flight’s scheduled arrival time.

4.Report your entry to the university if needed
Please submit the online survey from the link below within 14 days after the date of your entry if you are from a country/region designated as an infectious disease risk level 2 or higher for MOFA's Travel Advice and Warning on Infectious Diseases.

〇Regarding procedures for re-entry to Japan
1.Contacting the university
Make sure to contact the Student Support Office of your School/Graduate School once you decide to re-enter Japan to notify the support office, your supervisor and the Global Initiatives Group of your re-entry schedule.
Report your re-entry schedule to the Global Initiatives Group from here.
2.Acquisition of the negative certificate for COVID-19 before leaving for Japan】

〇Extension of the period of validity of Certificates of Eligibility (CoE)
Immigration Services Agency of Japan announced that the Certificate of Eligibility issued between May 1, 2022, and July 31, 2022 that is normally valid for “3 months” will be treated as valid for “6 months”. With this treatment, you will be able to use the Certificate of Eligibility of within six months for visa applications and landing applications.
(Certificates of Eligibility issued between January 1, 2020, and April 30, 2022 will be treated as valid until October 31, 2022.)
If more than three months have passed since the issuance date of your Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) at the time of your visa application, you will need to submit a declaration form provided by Hiroshima University so please contact the support office.

〇The amendment of law regarding the Animal Quarantine
Due to the amendment of the Act on Domestic Animal Infectious Diseases Control (Act No.16 of 2020) came into force, the punishment for violations of Export And Import Quarantine were changed to the imprisonment for up to 3 years or a fine of up to 3 million yen (up to 50 million yen for businesses). Please note that meat and animal products (pork, beef, chicken, egg, sausage, jerky, meat bun, and dumpling, etc.) are prohibited to be brought into Japan regardless the amount or the form of transportation such as carry-on or postal item.
