We have been treating patients with interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), sleep apnea syndrome, infections, rheumatism and respiratory failure, etc

In particular, we carry out specialized diagnosis and treatment of interstitial pneumonia, asthma, COPD, and multimodality therapy for lung cancer.

Our respiratory department has a 60-year history. The numbers of patients and research levels, including clinical and basic research are in the top-class in Japan. We have a reputation for being very enthusiastic about education for young doctors and many young doctors have been joining our department.

Medical research is important to solve medical problem which cannot be clarified by the present knowledge. We have been making research in interstitial pneumonia, asthma, COPD, and lung cancer. One of the highlights of our achievement is discovery of KL-6, widely used blood test for interstitial pneumonia.

Annual number of inpatients: 722 (lung cancer: 468, Interstitial lung diseases: 118, etc); annual number of bronchoscopy: 361 (all figures are for 2017).
