The Only One Research Institute and Resource Center for Amphibian Studies

 This is a unique institute in the world, in that it can stably keep and maintain amphibians, which have various advantages as experimental animals. Making use of this feature, the Institute pursues pioneering research and leads the world in the fields of development, inheritance, and evolution. Currently, the Institute maintains species of wild and mutant amphibians, genetically modified amphibians and endangered amphibians, and works to establish and provide standard inbred strains of the tropical clawed frog (Silurana tropicalis) as model amphibian species. Through such activities, the Institute aims to form a global hub for amphibian research.
