Archaeological Research Division

Overview

This Division was set up with the purpose of conducting research focused on the archaeological artifacts (relics) in the possession of Hiroshima University and making those results available to the public.
Its specific functions are as follows:
Confirming the presence or absence of any historic ruins ahead of any construction or land development work at the university, and undertaking any excavation required.
Through such endeavors, 28 ruins or relics have been confirmed to date in the Higashihiroshima district, with preservation (including partial preservation) and maintenance of 15 of these currently underway.
An overview of the results of the excavations is made available to the public through such publications as the “Annual Survey Report”, and by way of outreach activities such as guided tours of historic ruins and permanent displays of archaeological materials.
Moreover, the Division fulfils its academic and social responsibilities by periodically producing the “Excavation Survey Report”.
