Centers for Collaborative Research with External Organizations

Centers for Collaborative Research with External Organizations (including private companies) are established and run with funds from donations made by external organizations to Hiroshima University (HU), with the aim of promoting new value-co-creation, industry-academia joint research and human resources development, based on a high level of mutual understanding and interorganizational trust between HU and the donor organizations.

Roles of Centers for Collaborative Research with External Organizations

Centers for Collaborative Research with External Organizations supervise and carry out comprehensive management of joint research, joint research seminars, joint research divisions, donation-funded seminars, donation-funded research divisions, etc. which relate to the respective donor organizations and share common purposes and basic principles.

Target Research Areas for Centers for Collaborative Research with External Organizations

Centers for Collaborative Research with External Organizations can deal with any areas of research, including the humanities, social sciences, life science, science, and engineering, and interdisciplinary areas of research.
Centers for Collaborative Research with External Organizations can be established within any HU organizations, including graduate schools, attached research institutes, and Hiroshima University Hospital.

Names of Centers for Collaborative Research with External Organizations

Each Center for Collaborative Research with External Organizations can be given a name indicating its purposes/basic principles or representing the name of the relevant donor organization, or a name with both of these elements.
In addition, words and phrases indicating that the Center for Collaborative Research with External Organizations is jointly established by HU and the relevant donor organization can be added to the name described above.

Duration of Centers for Collaborative Research with External Organizations

The duration of each Center for Collaborative Research with External Organizations is five to ten years, in principle, and can be extended.

Structure of Centers for Collaborative Research with External Organizations

Each Center for Collaborative Research with External Organizations consists of a director and necessary staff.
It can also have a vice director, executive management director, and executive research director.

Procedure for Setting up a Center for Collaborative Research with External Organizations

1.Please send a completed “Application for Setting a Center for Collaborative Research with External Organizations” to the section in charge of the HU organization in which you want to set up a Center for Collaborative Research with External Organizations.
2.After discussion by the Management Panel of HU’s Organization for Academic Research and Industry-Government Collaboration, decisions are made by the Chair of the organization (President of HU) on whether the application will be accepted or not.
3.When the application is accepted, the organization will notify HU’s Education and Research Council accordingly.
4.Promptly after the decision is made to set up the Center for Collaborative Research with External Organizations, a “Contact for the Establishment of a Center for Collaborative Research with External Organizations” will be concluded between HU and the applicant organization.
