Overview of the Research Project
In this project, ferrous materials exhibiting mechanically-driven martensitic transformation, such as iron-based shape memory alloys and steels containing a metastable phase, will be tested at various strain rates, ranging from dynamic levels (via Hopkinson bar) to hypervelocity impacts (via Taylor impacts). Size- and time-dependent crystal plasticity finite element simulations will be performed using open-source code to reveal functional mechanisms. The material behavior will be modeled by developing user-defined subroutines. Furthermore, a numerical multiscale simulation framework based on FE-square and crystal plasticity will be established within an open-source finite element framework. Also, AI-based measurements and simulations will be developed.
