Executive Vice President Kaneko Holds Discussions with Presidents and Vice Presidents of Both Countries at the 2nd Japan-India University Forum

On September 30, 2023, Shinji Kaneko, Executive Vice President (Global Initiatives) of Hiroshima University, participated in the "2nd Japan-India University Forum”, which brought together presidents of top universities in Japan and India. The forum was organized by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) under the theme of "Strengthening Exchange between Japanese and Indian Universities and Research Institutes and Resolving Future Issues" with the aim of forming a foundation for exchange to further promote research cooperation and human resource exchange between the two countries. President Ochi took the stage at the 1st meeting held in January this year.

The forum, held at The Prince Kyoto Takaragaike, opened with an address by Kazuhito Hashimoto, President of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). Following the opening remarks, His Excellency Mr. Sibi George, Ambassador of India to Japan; His Excellency Mr. Hiroshi Suzuki, Ambassador of Japan to India; and Mr. Takashi Kiyoura, Deputy Director-General, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology gave speeches.

In the first session, after keynote speeches by Japanese and Indian universities and companies, discussions were conducted by the presidents and vice presidents of 10 Indian universities and 20 Japanese universities including Hiroshima University, as well as people from participating companies. Participants were divided into two groups, one to discuss "acceptance of international students and researchers" and the other to discuss "industry-academia collaboration”.

In the second session, Hiroshima University held individual discussions with top Indian universities to have concrete talks on expanding future collaboration in the fields of education and research.

Participation in a Roundtable Discussion on Industry-Academia Collaboration

In the "FY2017 Inter-University Exchange Project (Type A: India)”, Hiroshima University’s project of "International Linkage Degree Program for Developing Innovators Transforming Advanced Technology to Social Goals" was adopted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Through this project, we have been conducting overseas internship programs in collaboration with top Indian universities and have been working closely with them to promote educational and research exchanges between the two countries. We plan to further expand our exchanges within a new framework in the future.
