On August 25, 2025, Ms. Hendrina C. Dorba, Division Manager of the Education and Skills Development at the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Keiko Takei, Chief Education Analyst, and members of the JADS support team from the International Development Center of Japan visited Hiroshima University’s Higashi-Hiroshima Campus.
The delegation held discussions with Dr. Shinji Kaneko, Executive and Vice President (Global Initiatives) and Dr. Hany El-Shemy, Assistant for EVP, regarding the potential of the “Japan Africa Dream Scholarship (JADS)” program implemented by AfDB.
Following the meeting, the visitors joined a roundtable with four students from Africa, including Mr. Watama Wycliff, President of the Hiroshima University African Students Association(HUASA). In a warm and friendly atmosphere, the students shared their research interests, experiences of life in Japan, thoughts on scholarship programs, and their aspirations after returning to their home countries.
Ms. Dorba expressed her high expectations for the students’ future contributions to the development of Africa and offered her encouragement for their endeavors.
