On 22 April 2026, Times Higher Education (THE), the UK-based magazine specializing in higher education, announced the winners of the THE Awards Asia 2026, which recognize outstanding and innovative achievements by universities across Asia.

Now in its eighth year, the awards attracted more than 500 submissions from universities and higher education institutions across Asia in 10 categories. Following a rigorous selection process, only eight institutions in each category were shortlisted as finalists, underscoring the highly competitive nature of the awards.

The awards ceremony, held in Hong Kong on 22 April 2026, brought together university representatives from across Asia. Delegates from Hiroshima University also attended the event, which provided a valuable opportunity to engage with pioneering initiatives from other institutions while showcasing the University’s own achievements on the international stage.

Having received top honors last year in the categories of International Strategy of the Year and Outstanding Contribution to Environmental Leadership, Hiroshima University entered this year’s competition with high expectations for consecutive wins. Although the University did not secure an award this year, it was shortlisted as a finalist in five categories—surpassing last year’s four finalist selections. This achievement reflects the international recognition of the University’s continued commitment to excellence and innovation across a broad range of areas, including education, research, global engagement, student support, and environmental leadership.

Building on the initiatives that have been highly commended by THE, Hiroshima University will continue to advance as a globally engaged institution, dedicated to enhancing the quality of education and research while contributing proactively to society.
