The Vice-Chancellor of SASTRA Deemed University Visits HU

On June 23, 2026, Dr. S. Vaidhyasubramaniam, Vice-Chancellor of SASTRA Deemed University (Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy; SASTRA) in India, paid a courtesy visit to Hiroshima University (HU) and met with President Mitsuo Ochi.

The meeting was also attended by Executive Vice President (Global Initiatives) Shinji Kaneko and Specially Designated Associate Professor Sushil Raut (The IDEC Institute). The participants engaged in productive discussions on strengthening collaboration between the two universities, including promoting faculty and student exchanges and advancing joint research.

Located in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, SASTRA is a comprehensive private university with a strong reputation in a wide range of fields, including engineering, science, technology, business administration, and law. HU and SASTRA signed a university-level international exchange agreement in April 2024, and have since been promoting academic exchange and collaboration.

HU currently maintains 35 university-level international exchange agreements with 22 institutions in India, as well as 17 department-level international exchange agreements with 12 institutions. At present, 41 Indian students are studying at HU. This visit is expected to further promote academic exchange and collaboration with SASTRA as well as other universities and research institutions in India.
