On July 7, 2026, Hiroshima University (HU) held the opening ceremony for the Hiroshima University Morito Institute of Global Higher Education Study Abroad Program for Students of the Mongolian University of Science and Technology in the conference room on the fourth floor of the Administration Bureau at its Higashi-Hiroshima Campus. As a distinguished guest, Mr. Akiyoshi Morimoto of the Internal Audit Office of Logicom Holdings Co., Ltd. attended the ceremony on behalf of Mr. Masato Oue, Honorary Consul of Mongolia in Hiroshima.
Under this program, first-year undergraduate students enrolled at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology will be accepted as Special Auditing Students at HU for a period of nine months, beginning in July 2026. The participants are recipients of the Mongolian Presidential Scholarship Program, "ILGEELT-2100," and are outstanding students selected from across Mongolia.
For the inaugural cohort, 22 students have arrived in Japan. During their stay, they will take Japanese language courses, Japanese culture courses, and STEM-related subjects - including mathematics, chemistry, and physics - offered by the Morito Institute of Global Higher Education at HU. During the program, the students will also sit for HU's undergraduate entrance examination. Those who are admitted are projected to enroll as regular undergraduate students in April 2027. They are expected to pursue degrees primarily in STEM-related faculties, including the School of Science, School of Integrated Arts and Sciences, School of Applied Biological Science, School of Engineering, and School of Informatics and Data Science.
In his opening address, HU President Mitsuo Ochi encouraged the students, saying, "I sincerely hope that, through your studies in this program and by successfully completing our admissions process, you will join HU's undergraduate programs next April. HU is fully committed to supporting you in this challenge every step of the way. I also hope that, in the future, you will make full use of the knowledge and experience you gain here to serve as a bridge between Mongolia and Japan, and flourish as globally active professionals making meaningful contributions to the world." Inspired by President Ochi's message of encouragement, the students renewed their determination as they embarked on their study abroad experience.

About the Program:
The Hiroshima University Morito Institute of Global Higher Education Study Abroad Program for Students of the Mongolian University of Science and Technology is a new international education initiative established under the university-level agreement between HU and the Mongolian University of Science and Technology. The program is implemented in cooperation with Mongolia's national scholarship scheme. It follows the visit of H.E. Batmunkh Battsetseg, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, to HU President Mitsuo Ochi in March 2025, which served as the catalyst for strengthening student exchanges as well as educational and research collaboration between Mongolia and HU.
