Soprano Singer and Hiroshima University Visiting Professor Michie Nakamaru held a Vocal Music Workshop Class

Ms. Michie Nakamaru, an internationally famous soprano singer as well as Hiroshima University’s visiting professor, took her time to hold an open vocal music workshop class on October 25th. Not only students but also over 100 local music fans joined her class.

Ms. Nakamaru has joined us in our University Hospital’s lobby concert and entrance ceremonies, but it was the first time for her to hold a class.

During the class, she spoke with us about the times she worked part-time jobs hard in her high school/university years, how she felt her destiny in pursuing a musical life, when she coincidently heard a song and thought, “this is a one-of-a-kind in instrument in the entire world”, and how she travelled all around the world taking part in auditions and stages to sing. The visitors learned about that the “current life” she has was obtained through copious effort and experience.

At the individual lessons after the lecture, she instructed three students respectively, and showed how to do vocal exercises using their bodies according to their chosen songs.

The three students who attended her individual lessons seemed very stimulated, and they expressed their enthusiasm, saying “I was able to understand how to use my body by touching hers.” “I had never moved my body during vocal exercises, so I was surprised by her methods.”, and additionally, “I want to thoroughly break down the things I learned today, and keep working hard.”

Ms. Nakamaru stated the reason why she became a visiting professor is because she wants to find out the students who have the desire to join an international competition, and help them out. She sent a cheering message to our students, “It is important to have persistence, and never give up.”

We will be having Ms. Nakamaru’s live performance and talk show as the special event at the Homecoming day on November 5th, this Saturday. Please join us and enjoy an eye-opening mini concert of the Japan’s diva.
