Hiroshima University Organized the 2013 Autumn Bus Tour

On October 26 (Sat),Hiroshima University organized a bus tour to Kosanji Temple (Onomichi City) and Ohkunoshima Island (Takehara City) for a mixed group of international and Japanese students for the purpose of propelling international exchange between students. 19 Japanese and 53 international students took part in the tour.

When the students visited Kosanji Temple in Onomichi, they showed much interest in historical Japanese architecture and modern monuments. They also had a lot of questions about Japanese temples and we could see many international students asking the Japanese participants about etiquette and manners. On Ohkunoshima Island in Takehara City, they enjoyed exchange by playing with the rabbits.

At lunchtime, the bus stopped at Tatara Shimanami Park where you have a fabulous view on the Shimanami Sea Road, and the students ate their self-made lunch boxes. Some of the international students brought typical dishes of their home countries, and the participants enjoyed cross-cultural exchange by talking about food. On the bus, there was also a rule which forced them to “sit next to a person of another nationality” and all of the students had the chance to talk with somebody new. From the above, we can say that this program was a very effective way to promote international exchange between the students.
