2018 Hiroshima University Entrance Ceremony was held

On the 3rd of April, the 2018 Entrance Ceremony of Hiroshima University was held at the Higashi Hiroshima Sports Park Gymnasium Hall and a total of 3,960 new students were enrolled into the university.

While the cherry blossoms around the venue were at their best, many freshmen and their parents attended the ceremony.

In his welcome speech, President Ochi said to encourage the freshmen, “Whilst I would not deny the fact that it is certainly important to value the 'how,' I would like you to also consider the 'why' (i.e. the reasons behind things), including challenging various things where and when appropriate."

President Ochi also introduced a quatrain by William Blake and said, "To realize that our imagination can change the world and to believe in our potential, are the first most important step to be taken."

After the ceremony, there was a mini concert by Ms. Michie Nakamaru, an opera singer and a visiting professor of HU, followed by video messages from Mr. Hajime Moriyasu, former Head Coach of the Sanfrecce Hiroshima, Ms. Hiroko Oyamada, a novelist (awardee of the Akutagawa Award), and Mr. Kenjiro Nomura, former manager of the Hiroshima Toyo Carp.

This year, a total of 3,960 students, 2,493 Undergraduate students, 15 Special Course students, and 1,452 Graduate students are starting their campus life.
