HUSA Program International Student Interns Undertook the “International Exchange Project” in Kurahashi Festival

HUSA Program international student interns participated in the Kurahashi Festival in Kure-city, and engaged in the project to promote international exchange as the practicum of “Glocal Internship” course (offered by Dr. Tsunematsu). HUSA interns are from USA, the Philippine, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and China. Ten international students, from Finland, Germany, USA, Netherlands, Spain, Vietnam, and China, also joined the festival as interns’ volunteer supporters.

Student interns set up a booth of “Hiroshima University Study Abroad Program (HUSA)”, and they actively interacted with local people in the community. This was their fifth time to participate in Kurahashi festival for their internship practicum.

The interns introduced to local people various kinds of cultural activities popular in their home countries, such as American “Plinko”, Chinese knot, Indonesia’s Batik dying, Hong Kong’s calligraphy card to invite prosperity. Plinko was so popular among children.

On the festival stage the international students performed a short skit of “Foreigners’ Difficulty in Learning Japanese”, followed by their music and dance performance. Every year interns’ practicum has been progressing. To close the festival, students experienced the Mochimaki (rice cake throwing). With so much warm support for international students, the bond with local people is becoming stronger.
