Regarding the 2020 Hiroshima University Commencement Ceremony (Graduation Ceremony)

We are pleased to announce that we will hold the 2020 Hiroshima University Commencement Ceremony. However, in order to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, the graduation ceremony will be held in two parts, one for the undergraduate students and one for the graduate students.

For the Undergraduate Students (Venue: Higashi-Hiroshima Sports Park)

1.About coming to the Higashi-Hiroshima Sports Park

*The parking lot at the Higashi-Hiroshima Sports Park is limited.
■ If you are coming by car, please park at the temporary parking lot at Higashi-Hiroshima Campus and take the free shuttle bus service to the venue. (You may also park at the normal parking spaces on-campus).

■ Special bus services will also be available from JR Saijo Station and Shinkansen Higashi-Hiroshima Station to the Higashi-Hiroshima Sports Park (Requires a fee)
○ The schedule of the temporary bus service to the Higashi-Hiroshima Sports Park is as follows.

* From one hour before the opening ceremony, the Sports Park will become very busy and the roads around the venue will be congested. In particular, it will take time to board the bus at ① Daigaku Kaikan Mae bus stop due to congestion (it may take more than 30 minutes to board the bus), so please arrive well in advance. Parking is not permitted in the vicinity of the venue (including the streets and private property).
* After the ceremony (around noon), extra buses will be available from the venue to take you back: Buses to ① and ② will be available at any time, and a single service to ③ will depart around 12:30 p.m. (tentative).

2. Countermeasures against new coronavirus infections

  • To Graduating Students
    • Diplomas will be conferred by each faculty and graduate school after 13:30. For details, please check the notices from each support office.
    • “Dōage” (traditional Japanese custom of lifting a given person into the air in the spirit of celebration) and other cerebration rituals involving close body contact to each person are all prohibited.
    • If you have a fever or any other cold symptoms, please refrain from coming to the venue or to the campus.
    • Please wear masks and take other measures to prevent infection when coming to the venue and the campus.
  • To the Family Members of the Graduating Students
    • We kindly request you to refrain from coming to the Higashi Hiroshima Sports Park

* If there is any significant change in the infection status in the future, the method of holding the event may be changed. Thank you for your understanding.
