An international exchange student from Universite Toulouse Jean Jaures, France (HUSA 2020-2021) visited the high school affiliated with Hiroshima University and Kurahashi Island in Kure-city in March, 2021. These visits are for the development of courses to connect high school education with university education, and to connect international students with local communities. Possibilities of international students’ visit to high school and high school students’ participation in “Japanese Society and Gender Issues” course (by Dr. Naomi Tsunematsu) at Hiroshima University were discussed.
In Kurahashi Island, we were warmly welcomed by members from Kurahashi Community Center, Kurahashi Tourism Volunteer Guide Association, Kure-City Tourism Promotion Section, Kure-City Assembly, and Kurahashi Self-governing Body. We discussed the course development via the cooperate of university and local communities. We gained insightful knowledge on diplomatic history and ship-building industry in the Kurahashi Ship-building Museum. We also visited the local farm where they grow special tomatoes, which are local special products. Newly gained knowledge will be fully utilized for the development of new international courses.
