International Exchange Event Held at MIRAI CREA

On March 26, an international exchange event commissioned by Higashi-Hiroshima City was held at Hiroshima University’s hub for international exchange, Phoenix International Center MIRAI CREA, with the purpose of promoting the formation of ethnic communities and cross-cultural exchange.

Through holding events that target citizens of various backgrounds, such as this one, HU aims to create a new source of internationalization in Higashi-Hiroshima City.

Following on from AFRICAN SATURDAY held in December 2021, this third event was held in two parts. In the first part, 17 high school students living in Higashi-Hiroshima interacted with the international students and alumni from Latin America (Brazil, El Salvador, Honduras, Peru, Colombia, and Costa Rica).

The participants listened to mini presentations by international students on school education in their home countries and learned about the differences between Japanese and foreign school education.

In the second part of the event, international students and alumni from Latin America (El Salvador, Honduras, Peru, Colombia, and Costa Rica) set up booths representing their respective countries and gave presentations and demonstrations on their home countries' culture and history. International students, Japanese students, and Higashi-Hiroshima citizens who are interested in international exchange participated in the event and deepened their understanding of Latin America.

Although the day of the event was unfortunately rainy, 34 people including both members of the public and HU students participated and enjoyed a casual cultural exchange.

Going forward, HU will continue to hold international exchange events at MIRAI CREA.
