On February 4, 2023, the first round of hybrid seminar series was held by the Hiroshima University Alumni Association Indonesia Chapter (HUAA-Indonesia). HUAA-Indonesia was established in March 2022 and was certified as a corporation by the Indonesian government in January 2023. It is an alumni organization that spans all of Indonesia, and a new type of graduate’s reunion which aims to operate itself with a self-sustaining financial base supported by corporate and individual membership. The seminar was held online in the building where the HUAA-Indonesia office is located in Jakarta, under the theme of ‘The Development of Indonesia’s New Capital City: Transportation and Economy’, about 100 people (including approximately 20 in person and 80 online) participated. Following the opening remarks by Shinji Kaneko, Executive Vice President (Global Initiatives) of Hiroshima University, Dr. Siti Maimunah (IDEC graduate) of the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation and the Chairman of the HUAA – Indonesia gave a speech on "The Investment and Development of Transportation Sector in Indonesia’s New Capital City.” Next, Dr. Rudy Rahmaddi of the Indonesian Ministry of Finance gave a presentation titled "Building New Indonesia: Economic Perspective and Fiscal Incentive for New Capital of Nusantara (IKN)".

Since the topic of "capital relocation" is of great interest to both countries, many Japanese companies participated online on the day of the event. Also, the networking event after the seminar, held exclusively for local participants, was very lively. HUAA-Indonesia will continue to hold such seminars for alumni and business people on a regular basis.
