HU Graduate School of Innovation and Practice for Smart Society opening ceremony

Hiroshima University (HU) held a signboard unveiling ceremony on April 3 to commemorate the opening of its new Graduate School of Innovation and Practice for Smart Society.

The ceremony was attended by HU President Mitsuo Ochi, Executive Vice President Shinji Kaneko, Dean Idaku Ishii, the head of the new graduate school, and many others.

After President Ochi’s greeting, Dean Ishii expressed his determination, “We aim to create a smart society where field sites and digital societal infrastructures are integrated to be practical, international, and interdisciplinary to be used for research and education.”

The Graduate School of Innovation and Practice for Smart Society consists of interdisciplinary education and research in six major research fields of Society 5.0: Cyber Physical System, Smart Mobility, Smart Energy, Smart Agriculture, Global Health and Medical Science, and Social Innovation Science.

Through an integrated education that flexibly connects multiple research areas, the new graduate school aims to cultivate professionals who can design, develop, and implement human-centered smart societies at both global and local levels.
