J-PEAKS support team visits Hiroshima University

On February 12, 2025, a delegation from the Program for Forming Japan’s Peak Research Universities (J-PEAKS) Support Team visited Hiroshima University’s (HU) Higashi-Hiroshima Campus. The group included Professor Shigeaki Zaima from Meijo University’s Graduate School of Science and Technology—HU’s designated J-PEAKS supporter—along with representatives from other J-PEAKS-selected universities, officials from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and members of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). A total of 16 participants joined the visit to exchange views on HU’s J-PEAKS initiatives and conduct an on-site review of its research hubs.

During the discussion session, HU President Mitsuo Ochi provided an overview of the university’s education and research initiatives, followed by Executive Vice President for Research Seiichi Miyazaki’s presentation on HU’s J-PEAKS efforts. The session led to an active exchange of ideas with the participants.

The delegation then toured two key research hubs central to HU’s J-PEAKS initiative: the Research Institute for Synchrotron Radiation Science and the Research Institute for Semiconductor Engineering. HU aims to develop the industrial cluster ecosystem integrating semiconductor/meta-matter and biomaterial fields based on the material visualization core technology using synchrotron radiation.

The visit concluded with a Q&A session moderated by Professor Masayuki Shimada from HU’s Graduate School of Integrated Sciences for Life, the J-PEAKS Support Team liaison. The session facilitated further discussions on the university’s initiatives under the J-PEAKS program.
