AFRICAN SATURDAY: Highlights from Our International Exchange Event

Hiroshima University held an international event, "AFRICAN SATURDAY," on June 28th, 2025, at the Phoenix International Center MIRAI CREA.

This "SATURDAY" series, which consists of four international exchange events in a year, was designed to foster community building among international citizens and cross-cultural exchange. By bringing together international students and residents of Higashi-Hiroshima from diverse backgrounds, the event aims to serve as a new platform for promoting internationalization within the city.

AFRICAN SATURDAY, the first event of the series in 2025, featured Africa as its central theme. Staff members from African countries and regions (Cameroon, Djibouti, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia) hosted booths to introduce the history and culture of their home countries. They also engaged the audience with stage performances featuring traditional attire and musical presentations.

Despite the intense heat, the event welcomed 122 participants, including local residents of Higashi-Hiroshima and students from Hiroshima University. Participants enjoyed interacting with international students and deepened their understanding of the African countries and regions. We plan to continue this international exchange series with similar events in the future.
