Hiroshima University ranks among Japan’s top 10 in nine fields in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a UK-based higher education evaluation organization, released the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 on March 25, 2026. Hiroshima University (HU) ranked in the top 10 in Japan in one broad and eight narrow subject areas, earning strong recognition as a comprehensive research university.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject is an annual ranking that evaluates universities across five broad and 55 narrow subject areas. The rankings are based on five indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper, H-index, and international research network. 

In this year’s rankings, HU placed 10th in Japan in the broad subject area of Life Sciences & Medicine. For the narrow subject areas, the university ranked in the top 10 in Japan across eight fields, including Dentistry (tied for 2nd place), Education (tied for 3rd place), and Petroleum Engineering (tied for 3rd place).
